   Just realized that all the places I currently call home as expensive AF places. Singapore, San Francisco, Monterey.

   I think I’m ok with that. (I have lived in other places to save money, but at this point of my life honestly just want to prioritize community. Not that I can’t get that elsewhere: but that it would be hard to give up community I already have)

     I think I could happily live in any major Asian city, but not many on this side of the world. San Francisco is the smallest city I’ve ever lived in (I don’t consider Monterey a city). I think I could do Seattle and Vancouver. Definitely New York City.

     Big enough cities with proximity to food and cultures I like AND nonstop flights to Asia are more important to me than being the homeowner of some home in a place I could never fit in in.

     @gooba42 I’m convinced there are some societies, including many that many people here dream of moving to, where you can’t build community at all unless you were born there.

     @skinnylatte There's kind of a bell curve to this though.

     At the very bottom you have time but no money. Community can be built on the cheap though, when you have time for it.

     In the middle you have money but you don't have time anymore. Your community is the PTA or whoever else you're stuck with from work.

     When you get back towards the affluent end, you have time and money. You get to pick your community again.
