Today I had the privilege of interviewing Lekwungen elder for a project. Such a lovely person. She told me when she was a child they'd heat/dry harvested clams on a stick, then when they are dry they'd thread cedar strings through the clams and pack them flat on a tin suitcase to preserve them. I love hearing stories like that. #indigenous

She was wearing a cedar woven hat and she pointed at the hat when she was talking about the "thread". I forgot the name of the plant they used to skewer the clams but she said the hole left from those sticks were about the same size as the cedar strings/threads.

It's a historic docu-drama and the perk of the job is I get to listen to a lot of interesting stories.
