@earthling ah, good luck.
One of the things that make me love intel is that there's no such thing as propietary drivers. It's all on the kernel and github. -

@earthling @mischievoustomato >for davinci resolve
didn't see that earlier, holy shit davinci is so cucked, but there is no need to switch out amdgpu for something else: https://www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/comments/1fj02pg/davinci_resolve_19_works_on_linux_with_amd_gpu/
Apparently you just need to.. install this .deb from amds apt repos..? couldn't you just add amds repos yourself and install it properly -

@nyanide @earthling cause they will look up the thing they want to do and follow the instructions to install it, figuring the developer knows best how their software works
this is a grave mistake. -

@earthling @mischievoustomato the amd documentation just tells you to install the .deb Jesus Christ man. I mean, unless you're using an older graphics card with the radeon driver loaded, if your card is from like 2017 or later this shouldn't be the case, but you could always lspci if you really want to be sure. Anyways after that it should hopefully just work, creative professionals are still fucked in Unix land -

@pernia @earthling @mischievoustomato >olive editor
The last time I used that was in like 2020 and it's basically just movie maker for xp, also kdenlive for anything but trivial edits is apparently *hell*
I've just stuck to my roots and have just been using shotcut if i need to edit videos but I miss stuff like Sony Vegas 14 -

I hate Resolve can't do H.264 in Linux, just windows. Recently I imported some footage from a dashcam that was H.265, which won't work in Windows Resolve either without buying some $10 codec from the MS Store.
So I decided to try kdenlive again and it worked surprisingly well. It's no Resolve, but it doesn't crash constantly anymore and I was able to do a lot of simple edits:

@earthling @djsumdog @mischievoustomato I'm sorry but you're going to be running into a ton of brick walls if you're trying to do such work on Linux, with the proprietary stuff still dominant in the creative world it's just a massive rabbit hole foss warriors are still trying to figure out how to navigate.
