   Pretty good breakdown of OpenAI o3's (quite good) performance at guessing locations based on photos, by way of the "GeoGuessr" game (metadata stripped). It scored better than a very highly ranked human.

   A tendency of some AI critiques is to treat _all_ such evidence as "smoke and mirrors". That is unhelpful; it occludes awareness of capabilities that are actually improving (and can present real #opsec and surveillance risks in this case).

     @eloquence I posted a photo on here one time and someone gave it to Google and it found the location to within a couple meters.

     @eloquence incidentally, Google had an API for this that I tried before COVID and it found a picture of Petra I guess just by the color of the rocks when I tried

     @sun @eloquence this is why I'm careful when I post photos online. I remove the metadata and make sure there's nothing that can reveal my location, which usually means no outdoor photos. I don't need stalkers.
