   The 4chan hack is a perfect example of proof you should never trust proprietary software. 4chan besides being cuckflared, also fingerprinted their users themselves. And it had a list of IPs that would let you wait 15 minutes before posting in certain countries, making it a nightmare for people with dynamic IPs and browsers that don't let you be tracked.

     @Yoruka There was no playful cleverness required to crack 4chan - some skid just prodded at the website for years (the amount of time was due to incompetence, rather than having to work years to pull off an exploit) until he found the site's actual IP address and then found an ancient "Free"BSD and GNU Ghostscript versions installed with known vulnerabilities and used them to get a shell, then found a binary that should not have been suid, but was and proceeded to use that to get a root shell.
     
     4chan was mostly free software for its host, so it's more of a SaaSS problem (although it did serve proprietary JavaScript that was malicious); https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/who-does-that-server-really-serve.html

     The feds have been granted direct access to everything they wanted since over a decade ago for example.
