@p i'm looking for something. some sort of, custom remote control for a computer? can you help me figure out what it would be called?
i want this thing for doing things like reading books on my laptop.
right now i'm using this presentation pointer, see pic. but it doesn't have enough buttons. it's no problem to rebind buttons because you can do it in the obvious way. but there aren't enough of them.
some ideas i have would be to look for
1. smart tv remote controls
2. game pads
what do you think?

Probably your best bet. The X11 joystick driver (originally designed as an accessibility system) would get you what you want, more or less, probably; you can map it to mouse/keyboard events. Like, attached is what I am using for the DevTerm.
If that kind of solution works for you, then you can grab a Wiimote. Should have enough buttons, maybe you can figure out how to map gestures, I don't know. Otherwise a PS3/PS4 controller definitely does, but I think a Wiimote is one-handed, right, and enough buttons.

@fluffy @p steam controller??? just set up macros for everything, and put it on layers if you run out of buttons. trackpad is perfect, it just takes AA batteries, and still works fine for games

@fluffy @p Rii MX3 remote control. Plenty of buttons. Will cost you $12 or $13 depending on where you get it.
