     argh I hate linking to x when there's any other source, but I also hate posting stuff without a link to the source

     ugh whyyyyy are people still posting stuff on that shithole??

     I believe that most of the good stuff makes its way to other platforms too. so I usually see stuff when it gets reposted to tumblr or youtube.

     I *know* that there is more interesting stuff in the world than anyone can see in a single human lifetime, and it's okay to miss out on seeing some of it. this is logical and rational.

     and yet. i still get grumpy and a bit anxious sometimes.

     there is stuff I want to see. and I'm *missing out* (oh no, oh dear) because I'm not willing to have accounts on some of the platforms where people are posting the stuff I want to see

     My wonderful nail artists at #MittyNails regularly post photos of their work on instagram, including my own manicures and my kiddo's.

     And I can't *see* them any more because Instagram won't let me look at posts unless I sign in to Instagram.

     Those FUCKERS.

     I fully understand why nail artists, tattoo artists, jewellers, and lots of other creatives still have accounts on instagram and mostly post photos of their work there. I get it. I want them to be able to stay in business and get more customers and all of those good things.

     There really isn't much of a valid alternative for practictioners in creative fields where the visuals matter so much, and where they need to keep bringing in new customers.

     Ahhh I've lost some of my chill. I'd like it back please.

     The above post brought to you in part by my insanely cute manicure, my inability to take good photos of it myself, and the knowledge that the artist took good photos, and that she's probably posted them to instagram where I can't see them or share them.

     When I moved to the fediverse in 2022, I really missed all the D.O. fandom posts. I followed some fan accounts on FB to make up for it, but have now left FB, too. I am not ready to fully leave Insta yet, as I really like seeing some SUHO and Taemin posts.

     As much fun as it was to have such in-depth, super-fresh news all the time, i am surviving without it all. 🫤

     @lookitmychicken If you'd be fine with just seeing posts and not interacting, I *think* Instagram has not broken their RSS feed yet, so you can add any Instagram account to an RSS reader and you'll get the new updates (not the full backlog, but I saw someone offer an option for that already).

     @LeGaosaure I tried that a while back. it seems that it can be set up to show a preview of an instagram post, but when you click through to see the images in the carousel, you get cockblocked by the instagram login requirement. So it's not really useful for people who put more than one image in a single instagram post (which seems to be most instagram users). I don't think the rss feed is any use for instagram stories either. 😒
