   unlike parliamentary democracy or different voting systems like ranked choice, 3rd parties are unstable in the usa:

   duverger's law

   the enemy isn't corruption here, it's math

   i want viable 3rd parties

   but we won't get them until we change our voting system

   until then, talk of 3rd parties only divides the left, helping republicans win

   we need to treat the democratics like an empty shell, jettison milquetoast centrists

     all of the people hyping 3rd parties i tend to classify as:

     1. geopolitical troll farm that knows better, tricking americans into wasting their vote

     2. well meaning non-americans who don't know how fucked up our voting system is

     3. genuinely clueless americans going on feel good but naive hopes and dreams

     our only hope is to cannibalize and take over the democratic party, treat it like an empty shell to inhabit, and eject the weak spineless centrists

     @benroyce @pmonks @draNgNon I'm going to graciously go back to the original response. The time has come for a progressive and human-centric party. That party must be the Democratic party or it must be a sudden drop-in replacement for it.

     And the latter is an utter pipe dream for people who don't know what it takes to be relevant in US national politics.

     So, kudos to Hogg for doing something that brought the belly fire and sharp teeth to the Republicans-- forcing his own to fight in primaries

     we're on the same page

     treating the democratic party as empty vessel and drop kicking the spineless centrists out is easier than new party

     hogg's approach is correct

     a new party means we divide the left and the GOP wins

     we're not a parliamentary democracy or ranked choice voting

     so if 35% vote for awesome 3rd party, 25% vote for dems, and 40% for GOP, it's 60% vs the GOP... but the GOP wins

     we *have* to reform the dems, because of our stupid voting system
