@grishka@renwillis@cwebber Funny that it could potentially be decentralized as long as you’re a millionaire and can run your own relays for thousands of dollars per month. A bit counter to their marketing. I host a PDS and it’s basically dead weight for me. I wish I had just signed up on bsky.app, because there is basically no payoff right now, and I can’t migrate my account to bsky.app as that is prohibited. The model is so busted right now.
@renwillis@cwebber no, as far as I understand it, if the Turkish equivalent of Roskomnadzor blocks bsky.app and all its related domains, that would only affect the official AppView. Which acts as your proxy into the network. So if you suppose that a different AppView exists and isn't blocked, you can, in theory, still use that to access the same network and post on behalf of the same account.
@renwillis I would call it semi-decentralized. You can run your own PDS, but while running your own relay and AppView is a technical possibility, it requires some prohibitively expensive infrastructure so no one has done that yet to my knowledge.
@grishka@cwebber as I understand it, if Turkey shuts down the main Bluesky instance, bsky.social, if I had my own "instance", it would go black as well.
Here, if you shut down mastodon.social, mstdn.social keeps on trucking.
