     @adiz not forever, I mean there have always been some farm subsidy programs but not like current day.
     
     The biggest change was around 2001 when we just started paying farmers to grow ridiculous amounts of corn we don't need to keep them doing something productive and it never stopped. We just keep renewing the Farm Bill with these provisions every year.
     
     This is how we end up with HFCS and ethanol that appears cheaper to the consumer but is worse in so many ways including the fact that the cost is secretly higher because our taxes and inflation hide the true cost

     that makes sense. a country ought to concentrate on growing its own food.
     
     what doesn't make sense is exporting other key industries.

     @s2208 I agree. I'm not opposed to industrial subsidies. It's what China does. However, anyone taking government subsidies should have to give up part of their corporate ownership and control to the government, like what China does. @feld
