My phone is 2 inches away from my laptop but Signal can't sync my devices, it's just hanging here. I told it to not sync history. I have like a dozen contacts max. This software sucks. -

Just checked latest Signal Desktop, still no Sealed Sender options available. -

Confirmed by my friend that the Sealed Sender icon does not show up on my messages sent from my laptop, only the ones from my phone.
Signal continues misleading its users about these privacy features. Signal Desktop has always been a weak link and they suppress any bad news about it -

also really annoying that the *recipient* has to view if Sealed Sender was used; the sender cannot actually tell! -

How many people sit at their desktop/laptop all day and primarily use Signal from there due to it being more convenient? -

@sun Basically you hand Signal a message without any authentication and they deliver it. The recipient decrypts it and can tell from the signature inside it was from you.
Anyone intercepting the traffic can't tell if two messages were from the same sender just by looking at any cryptographic signatures / key IDs that are exposed (it's a second monumental task to figure out who the signatures really belong to, unless you've really targeted your traffic interception to be close to the suspect you're surveilling)

@sun Signal Desktop probably isn't allowed to do Sealed Sender because someone could spam the Signal network with garbage. Not like they can spam *people* very easily, but gum up their network with garbage that gets past the first authentication barrier. Maybe probe and attack their parsers, or just impact down delivery of messages for everyone. Stuff like that. In conversation permalink -
