    The thing that frustrates me about @mattblaze having to say this (again!) is that our elections were in fact hacked, and in plain sight: by obscenely large political spending by billionaires, rampant disinformation, voter demotivation, voter disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, the electoral college, racism, transphobia, and xenophobia baked deep into our culture…and the list goes on.

    That’s not speculation. It’s facts. It’s in broad daylight. And all of it is hacking.

    We invent technological hacking when the social hacking is staring us right in the face. https://federate.social/@mattblaze/114311024655971781

      Unfortunately, I have to say this again: US election infrastructure isn't perfect and there's still work to do to make it more secure. But there is simply no credible evidence that the 2020 election outcome was altered through technical attacks, despite exhaustive scrutiny. Shortly after the 2020 election, when these discredited claims were first raised, 58 of my colleagues and I issued this statement: https://www.mattblaze.org/papers/election2020.pdf . Nothing we've learned since then alters my assessment.

      @charlesgaba

      Indeed. But to my mind, both are hacking, in that they are a structured effort to change the outcome of an election by means other than changing the minds of voters.

      @inthehands @mattblaze I've had to explain to people countless times that there's a huge difference between voter SUPPRESSION (limiting polling places, hours, purging registration lists, making it difficult to register, draconian photo ID requirements, bomb threats at polling places, etc) and CHANGING the results of the ballots which ARE cast.

      @burnoutqueen

      By “hacked,” I mean that the outcome of the election does not reflect the preferences of the voters. And yes, you have correctly identified the ones doing the hacking.

      We weren't hacked. the system is working as designed: the ruling class calls the shots, and our capitalist-owned political landscape keeps us bound to them in perpetuity.

      @wonofone @inthehands @burnoutqueen Kevin mitnick, potentially the greatest hacker of all time, freely admitted that most of his successful “hacking” was merely social engineering.

      Humans are so gullible. 🤦♂️
