   JDownloader2 is such a great program for making Youtube usable. It took some tinkering with, but I've managed to get it to quickly turn Youtube vids and even entire channels into downloaded videos or mp3s with the exact resolutions/bitrates I like them at.
   
   and it updates itself, so every time Google makes Youtube harder to manager (basically every day now), JDownlaoder2 will have free improvements to bring a bit of sanity back to that website.
   
   of course, if someone hates Youtube in the current year and has ditched it entirely, I understand. but I enjoy my 4-hour vidya analysis videdos.

     @dushman that would be good, but there even if a new, perfect video website appeared, it wouldn't have the billions of videos that Youtube has acquired over the decades. it would be a long journey for them to be relevant.

     Long form sperg content is the best. I rip the audio and sync the files onto my phone for work/driving.
     
     "ytdownloader" does the same on Linux. PipePipe allows you to rip YT directly on your Android phone.

     @dushman @noyoushutthefuckupdad I back up all the videos I make onto Odysee now. I try to put them on bitchute but they have a 2 gb limit, and half the videos I uploaded don't work anymore and support refuses to answer why.
     
     I used to use rumble but they erased my entire channel because one of their partners (a drug addict child abuser that rumble willingly gave a contract to) personally didn't like me and went behind the scenes to get me shut down without warning or explanation.

     A GUI is much more complicated than `yt-dlp <URL>` and you can easily set in .config/yt-dlp/config
     --format="bestvideo[height<=1080]+bestaudio/best"
     --prefer-free-formats
     --sub-langs "en.*,ja"
     
     with your preferred editor (no need to learn yet another GUI) and then all future videos will be automatically downloaded just as you like them.
     
     There does exist free software GUI's for yt-dlp, but they just added needless complexity.

     One of my favorite things about music files was the guy who would just take ordinary mp3 files and resave them as flac files and upload them to some flac depository and have people praise the music quality anyway, "it's like I'm there in the studio with them!"
