@InfiniteHench I'm not going to buy either, but it's a hard sell for me to want a Switch 2 over a Steam Deck. I could pay $80 for one of a handful of launch titles or I could buy a gazillion games on sale through Steam. Or games I own through other marketplaces, or free to play games.
I know they're not traditionally thought of as competitors to one another, but they kinda inhabit the same space functionally and price-wise. If I didn't already have a desktop PC, I'd be Steam Deck all the way.
@crapknocker I’ve never really understood the thought process that ‘modern Nintendo doesn’t compete with other game makers.’
Sure, for a long time Nintendo not just focused on kids, it deliberately avoided titles and studios that catered to older audiences. But that started eroding arguably with the Wii, inarguably with the Switch.
Now, Nintendo absolutely competes with every other platform on the market for eyeballs and playtime. Its doors are open for all manner of teen and most adult games. IMO, the fact it has a 1st party catalog of mostly all-ages games doesn’t change that.
@InfiniteHench I think all the traditional console makers are realizing that it's getting harder and harder to compete with phones and to make money on hardware. I think Xbox might exit the hardware game completely, like Sega and others have done.
