@jplebreton god I remember reading this when it came out and thinking about how lucky I was not to have been caught by people like this at a more vulnerable age. Young socially isolated autistic people are so vulnerable to cults and it infuriates me seeing the process at work
@emenel@jplebreton Honestly imo/ime a significant percentage of these cult victims don't really care about being part of an elite, they just have a desire to be useful and to make the world better and to feel like there's a place where they belong, and have no real tools for comparing/evaluating ideologies or noticing when they're being used. The "elite" schtick is imposed to isolate them from people who might help pull them out.
@clarity yeah. and the cults that are centered around Being the Most Intelligent are this massive source of validation telling people their neurodiversity makes them a kind of elite
