But portable emulator handheld to use for a while before sleeping, a grind is great to have; I took a few months to get through FF Tactics, started up 7th Saga with some trepidation because it's cursed.

It is a pretty unique game, and additionally, there is a tipping point because the stat gains for the enemies scale faster than the stat gains for the player-character. You might enjoy it.

     It's one of those games they greatly increased the stats of everything in the US ver. It gets a bit less rough once you get your first(?) companion

     Final Fantasy Tactics is awesome. I would make my magic users go through the Mediator job to acquire “Equip gun,” then become other magic user jobs (ex. Summoner), so they can use a gun for extreme long range, until the target is within the magic cast range.

     Ha, frog, when I was grinding doing something like that (like the degenerator/level-up to drop a character to level 1 as a Calculator so I could bring her back to 99 as a ninja and see how high her speed was), I'd frog the guy. Chicken is more reliable but Chicken recovers over time.

     FFT was one of the first games I completely broke. I realized you could level to 99 without progressing the story past the first zone.
     
     So I did.
     
     Throw stone at my own people every level while one weak enemy with al his equipment stolen was surrounded on all sides.

     Yeah, so I just ran around the bonus dungeon and I had people with the "Talk" skill using "Praise" on each other in a circle while Ramza collected scalps with "Secret Hunt". (I tried it with a mime but this caused too many issues near the beginning when pacifying the monsters.)

     You max brave with Ramza's Cheer up skill. You max it every battle, and about a quarter of the gain stays permanently after the fight. This makes blade grasp god mode, since the chance of it happening is your brave. Your characters are basically immune to non-special attacks.
     
     Faith is more dicey - after 95 or so they will leave your army to go be priests.

     I ground the shit out of that game, even getting ultima on Ramza, which is pain. Also getting the Javalin+ and the items in that forbidden dungeon was a disaster too. The only way to get the Zodiac spell is to lower your summoner to near zero faith and then get hit with it by Zodiark. Coupled with the charge skill you can get from a crystal from the ultima demons (1 in 8 chance) your summoner becomes god.

     I didn't get that this time around. I'd probably have to look up how; getting to the bonus dungeon was arcane already.
     
     I did get the fancy summon from the end guy but I didn't use it much. Everyone was either Cid or a ninja with "Martial Arts", so they'd punch twice and deal a big bucket of damage twice.
