So it's basically #Thunderbird with AI then.
Nope, #Mozilla. Nope.

@ryanleesipes @ppb1701 I too thank you for clarifying this although I'll screenshot this thread in the event of a change of heart.
You both know this as much as I do: companies aren't your friends.
@ppb1701 @joeo10 our goal is actually to de-shitify email services and the like. Great email, calendar, contacts, encrypted file sharing - all based on open standards. All of this has been enshitified, we're here to show that there is a better way to do it all.
@ryanleesipes @joeo10 Thank you for the clarifications🙂
@ppb1701 @joeo10 hello, I run Thunderbird. The AI is an experiment that is in an add-on. We are playing with the technology trying to figure out if there are any useful features worthwhile with it. We may never ship that add-on at all.
Thunderbird is forever free and open source, these services are optional, opt-in features that will always be an add-on. We are not going to force AI on anyone.
@ppb1701 @joeo10 also worth noting that we (Thunderbird) WILL NEVER sell user data or use it to train AI. Thunderbird primarily doesn't want user data. Period. We are going to try to ensure user data is encrypted with Thundermail so we never see the contents of a user's email.
That is who we are.
@joeo10 So let's enshittify a beloved email client and monetize the crap out of it. Oh and we will plug an ai in to slurp up all your juicy details that we promised to leave alone in firefox.
yeah pass.
