      @icon_of_computational_sin ridiculous situation but sadly true. For emulators i'd often use the windows version via wine because it worked a lot better than the x11 variant.

      @icon_of_computational_sin The kernel, Linux's ABI has been stable all this time (there have only been a few minor changes that can be reverted with the correct .config), but few programs talk to Linux - programs rather talk to GNU.

      glibc wasn't designed to have a stable ABI - only its API is stable - the ABI is only forward compatible and the glibc developers don't hesitate to make changes that benefit free software, even if that causes proprietary malware to break.

      Proprietary malware only soils the GNU system, which was created to be 100% free software and must stay that way - thus it's a good thing if proprietary malware doesn't run and everyone's freedom deserves more breaking changes that don't break free software.

      @icon_of_computational_sin @lain @why Needing a static ABI is a drawback unique to proprietary software - with free software you just compile the source code against the API.

      @icon_of_computational_sin Please explain yourself.

      When you are writing about GNU, why do you write something completely different ("Linux") - it's not even laziness, considering that GNU is shorter and easier to write than "Linux"?

      Is it some anti-freedom cult behavior where you cannot name the GNU?
