I recently moved from Boston to Portland, I am making new friends at 65.
I can see when people get to know me well enough that they understand me to be an activist, for many that's enough to have them not want to be closer, they are afraid.
It feels awful but it also beautifully outlines what I actually need to do, I need to gain their support, I need to gain access before I can "do" anything.
I notice we snipe at each other over extremely pedantic things.
This is the phenomenon of the hatred of small differences. We really need to stop it.
Partly it happens because we’re in a bit of an echo chamber and the MAGA fans are mostly on a different platform, and can’t aim our aggression at them.
Can we be a little more gentle with our words to one another? Accusing someone of spreading disinformation is a serious accusation. Especially when what is at issue is something very minor.
