   Teddy Roosevelt said this prior to the creation of Israel. His father's lineage are Dutch Sephardic Jews (Van Rosenvelt). I wonder what he would say if he were alive today.

     I traced the pedigrees of both Theodore and Franklin D. Roosevelt on https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/LV46-YF6. The Van Rosenvelts from whom they descend are definitely Sephardic Jews. According to Judaism, the maternal line determines Jewishness, but I know mischlings with only paternal lineage who identify as Jewish. FDR sided with the Jews in WW2, but I don't know Teddy's history well enough.

     Seeking safety following their banishment from Spain, members of the Jewish Rossacampo family went to Germany, Holland and other countries, where they changed their name to Rosenberg, Rosenbau, Rosenblum, Rosenvelt and Rosenthal.
