@TeaTootler yes, I understand what a PCM is useful for; the question still remains, though -

@TeaTootler indeed! that's what I think - people want one with no electronics because *THEY DONT TRUST THEM* - which is a horrible place to be.
A PCM for even a 90s car is stupid expensive. That shit is like as powerful as a gameboy. Why is it that shit $500? -

@sickburnbro they’re talking about data loggers and other spy shit that went in the late 2000s models onward

@BroDrillard blowby will still be hard to fix by yourself.
But yes, I think it's because all the electronics has been intentionally been locked away behind stupidly expensive software designed to make sure the "wrong" people don't touch it. -

Because you can fix most things on them yourself. -

@TeaTootler the problem is that all these things are is a game boy with a specific game installed. There is 0 reason every car older than like 2000 shouldn't be runnable on a common ECU with a different fuel mapping ( and whatever other sensors contribute to that ) -

@sickburnbro rarity and it only works on that car

@mord @7073M there are certainly things you can't fix, if you've done something and your cylinders have low compression, you're probably going to need a machine shop.
The intentionally impenetrability of the electronic parts, when they *should* be **easier** to fix is the point. -

If it's completely mechanical, there's nothing you can't fix in your driveway, with help if you need from the internet or a buddy, or whatever.
You can't just grab a wrench and some parts from the junkyard and fix an ECM though -

@sickburnbro Eventually someone might come up with a programmable ECU but then you need ROM dumps and all the Jewish shit that goes with that -

@TeaTootler yeah, but that's kind of the whole right to repair stuff. It shouldn't be some kind of dumbass company secret about the fuel mappings for a 20 year old vehicle.
That's basically what these stupid things do: "ok, what is the temperature and amount of air we are getting - what is the RPM: the amount of fuel to dispense is X" -

I agree, but, at least for me, I would only want one in a shit has hit the fan scenario. If I end up with motor problems that can't be fixed in the driveway, I need to swap the motor or the vehicle.
I like a great many improvements that come with modern cars, but I still want an old clunker to mess around with.Bread up, Bro likes this. -
