   While I couldn't use Mastodon I whipped up a Friendica account. I missed being connected. Does anyone else have an account there?

     @cwicseolfor Oh no, by a certain point I used Facebook and Twitter much the same, lol. Besides, most people I know in person still only use Facebook.

     @Fragglemuppet I'm liking it! Being Fedi, if you find you prefer either platform and want to follow people from the other you can, comments flow smoothly. I find it most like Facebook, and this more like Twitter, so use them similarly - Friendica for IRL friends, Mastodon for internet co-humaning. The comment nesting and Embedded! Retoots! are nice from an interface perspective though I'm not sure how it plays with screenreaders. Some nice solarpunk, gardening, etc. hashtagged content there too.

     @cwicseolfor In Facebook I spent a lot of my time in groups based on interests. If I got to talking to someone there I would add them as a friend. Speaking of which, I thought Friendica had groups like that, but I couldn't actually find them.

     @Fragglemuppet Twitter's character limit and slower uptake among friends meant I followed people in a more interest-based way - lots of writers and artists. Facebook being under real names, I avoided public content and mostly went to share with my own crowd.

     I've nudged some artsy friends to try fedi and they all report much more engagement in the fediverse - no surprise, since all the views/impressions aren't from bots! I'll keep dripping the idea on the rest.

     @Fragglemuppet Friendica does have Groups but I think they may not be in wide use yet - and if they aren't posting publicly I don't think they would end up in your feed. You can sort your feed for Groups posts in the Account Types menu in the left sidebar (desktop) or menu bar (mobile); I'd probably also sort for Local or Global Community first then select Groups to see what's going. Since the infrastructure is new I don't think there's a lot of niche content just yet, I mostly see news groups.
