@vladimir_lu @delta depends. I don't know the details of what's happening in Russia right now but it sounds like they've been adopting some of the same DPI gear/techniques China uses in which case a VPN or some other overlay network (tor, i2p, yggdrasil, whatever) is probably not going to work. -

@feld @delta @vladimir_lu also Signal fails in Russia because it can't deliver a verification SMS during registration. So VPNs don't help in this case.

@tyx @delta @vladimir_lu are you using a private Matrix server or something? Matrix, SimpleX, and others being unavailable was reported by people online back in September.
> tor obfuscation
yeah this is tricky because there are so few nodes running Snowflake etc so it's hard for people to use it.
> some VPNs still work
so they haven't gone quite as hard as China yet. Interesting. -

I know a bit about what happens in RU for some reason. Some VPNs still work, tor works with the bridges and obfuscation, ssh-tunneling works. For talking to my friends Matrix just works as well. -

Apparently strictness of the blocking depends on the provider.
matrix.org is not in the official blocklist. Chances are my friends use VPN though, I never asked.feld likes this. -
