@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain Oh, and also, have you seen the effigy on a tomb by Lady somebody or other of her son? Dammit, I have a rubbish memory these days, I can see the bloody thing in my mind's eye, but I can't remember her name at the moment. Apparently she had "taken up sculpture" and made this.
I was 😲 over it, the thing is astounding! She had no formal training either.

@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain She was Diana Manners mother too, I have The Rainbow Comes and Goes by her in here somewhere, published under her married name of Cooper. The loss that generation felt in WW1 was beyond comprehension, all classes, just an entire generation mown down, and to be honest a young officer with nothing but a pistol and a swagger stick stood even less chance as they advanced. Their attrition rate was appalling.
