I rode the TGV once, and it was light years ahead of anything we have in the US now in 2025, I mean “like aliens dropped me in the future” light years ahead.
That was in 1993.

@inthehands The rest of the world has figured out a fuel-efficient, cheap, fast way to move people quickly from one city to another.
The US: BUT MUH PROPORTEES
@drahardja
It’s just the cheapest of excuses. MUH PROPERTEEZ didn’t stop us from building the interstate highway system. Property counts for diddly when the power brokers want something. Just ask the residents of Rondo in St. Paul. Hell, they planned that interstate with the specific and clearly stated •intent• of destroying private property…of Black and Jewish people.
Nope, property’s not a barrier to high-speed rail. It’s an excuse.
I like the TGV, Frecciarossa, and China HSR.
But I am particularly jealous of the Shinkansen and how it is rolling out long-distance maglev.
@michael_w_busch @drahardja
The Shinkansen is beautiful! I mean, at this point it’s getting hard to find a major economy other than the US that •isn’t• doing something impressive with high-speed rail.
