@garfieldairlines@fedi.garfieldairlines.net I'm not mad that I'm blocked but I'm just amazed that some rightoids are triggered so easily. Makes you wonder who the real snowflakes are.
"how dare you treat transgender people like humans, blocked"
@garfieldairlines@fedi.garfieldairlines.net I follow a lot of people that most other fellow leftist people consider "awful" on here but I don't consider them "nothing of value". Not dehumanizing people goes both ways in my opinion.
Instead of blocking bigots on sight I'd rather just try to interact with them about normal stuff, show them I'm a actual person too. I think these kinds of things really help to reduce the extreme polarization we're facing at the moment.
Also another reason is that I'd like to keep an eye on them so I have some ideas about what other fucked ideologies are up to at the moment.
Also many other leftists don't like it when I say this, but I oppose the "nazi bar" argument.
If you kick them out they will make their own nazi bar anyway, and an even more exteme one, without you. If you keep them around you can still talk to them, convince them of different opinions, etc.
I know my approach doesn't work for everyone, especially people being actively targeted by hate.
As a leftist and as if you can do so without being targeted or harassed I actually would recommend following at least a small number of far right people for some actual spicy diversity in your timeline.
@SuperDicq@garfieldairlines I think that the Nazi Bar argument is correct. Since twitter allows Nazi's it's become a Nazi haven, with Nazi's becoming emboldened too.
@snacks@SuperDicq It's not my screenshot. It happened while I was on a long break from fedi and the only thing I slightly remember about this is that tuxcrafting might have been his gf for a while, or something like that and he was talking about being single.
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo@yomiel@new.asbestos.cafe I deleted my twitter account for different reasons. Mostly because the blue checkmark is a "pay to reach people" scheme, and I still mourn the loss of third party apps (Twidere), and especially the last one : TweetDeck, it was so powerful… But my friends were leaving, the platform was changing, the political views of Musk were only secondary, it was just that all of my friends were gone.
The 30 days post-deletion are now clearly gone and… I don't miss it. Bluesky is a good replacement for artists and furshit (why do I even like furshit…)
Twitter used to actually be a reasonable platform before they went public in 2013.
Every since then it has only been going downhill. Elon Musk is only the tip of the iceberg but in my opinion it was already was beyond saving when he took over.
I hate people who pretend Elon is the one who killed Twitter while the real Twitter already died in 2013.
