Lenin once postulated in a remote possible future that under moribund capitalism when faced with its impending collapse at the hands of the proletariat that it could be that petite bourgeoisie would abdicate their duty to defend the hegemony and simply acquiesce to the major tenets of socialism.
Even this however didnt excuse kautskys denial of the dictatorship of the proletariat to crush the remaining capitalist presence and rebuild the state.
I sometimes wonder with further unemployment ai and automation if the trifecta alone could quietly usher in such a bourgeoisie defeat at their own hands (the contradictions of capitalism as identified by Stalin come to mind.)- Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: likes this.

@Nimbius666 Capitalism is already collapsing because the global economy has hit the growth limits. It won't be able to grow any further, it won't even stay the same size, it will shrink significantly, probably causing the entire Capitalist world economy to collapse. And the billionaires who understand this are planning on becoming the feudal lords of the neofeudal age which they hope will come after the collapse.

@LordCaramac an interesting conclusion! Rent seeking in the digital economy and the emergence of technocratic neofeudalism in the west certainly supports this. Capitalisms endless growth is a farce. @Nimbius666 However, Techno-Feudalism won't work, the Cyberlords will perish just like most of us. A much smaller human population might still survive the collapse, but with a much less stable, ecologically impoverished Earth, civilisation is likely to become utterly impossible for tens of thousands of years, reducing humanity to a bunch of small nomadic post-collapse tribes.

@LordCaramac I would posit something similar. Economist Wolfgang streeck notes moribund capitalism will collapse for several decades if not hundreds of years leaving in its wake a toxic corpse from which the proletariat cannot emerge, and the former bourgeoisie are entirely divorced from. The national assembly of Germany in 1845 for example is likely what we will see Congress and senate devolve into. Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: likes this. -

@sun @Nimbius666 Not going to happen. Space will remain a resource sink for many decades if not centuries before we can turn it into a source. We probably haven't got many decades left, maybe one or two decades if we're really lucky, before things start falling apart rapidly.
Space is just a distraction.
