Is Open Office a good alternative to Word?
Do I download something to use it?
Do I sound like my mother right now? Yes, yes I do.
(I think I last used Open Office in 1995)

@Bronwyn I use LibreOffice (a fork of OpenOffice) and it's pretty solid. There's a download. https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/ (Get 64-bit for Windows if you use Windows)
@SRLevine @Bronwyn OpenOffice is still around, but I would (and did) recommend LibreOffice over OpenOffice. There's a complicated history of why they split, but the result is that OpenOffice doesn't have as wide of a userbase or as good of a feature set.
@Bronwyn I think people push libreoffice now?
ETA: it's the successor to open office
I got great recs here before and then completely blanked on what it was for and couldn't find the damn post. THANK YOU.
I knew open office didn't quite sound right anymore.
