     @anemone @ren Also, numbers don't tell the whole story. There's been a history of risktakers choosing motorcycles, and those risktakers choose to ride more dangerously, which obviously inflates numbers. (Basically, correlation versus causation again.)

     @anemone @ren Why not try starting small if you're afraid of going fast? Get something up to 150cc and see how you feel about it, and start going only on slow roads and/or parking lots. (That's perfect motorscooter territory, by the way. :blobfoxthumbsup: )

     @anemone @ren Yeah, American drivers are shitty and even fucking insane in some cases these days.
     
     All of the time on the open road (century+ bicycle touring, long motorcycle rides, etc.) really sharpened my senses and improved my decision-making skills. I'm always on super-high alert when riding at speed and I wouldn't give it up for the world, as strange as that sounds. :blobfoxcomfy:

     @tk @anemone @ren anecdotally have seen so many people on motorcycles on the road going 20 mph over the speed limit and riding in between lanes/swerving between cars on the highway/breaking pretty much every road law there is

     one rare case where not entirely car people's fault

     My stance is that folks shouldn't learn to ride mororcycles until their thirties, so they (hopefully) won't have that edge anymore.

     @tk @anemone @ren admittedly I (used to, before moving) drive way too fast and still would if it were possible on this tiny island, but I do it as safely as i can and only in places where no one else is there

     @tk @anemone @ren was going to do a scooter-thing before I got here and realized I lived on a mountain and that cheap scooters can't handle the incline, and so many roads are unpaved need 4WD, but if you stick to the west coast/tourist district/Susupe and San Antonio, you see tons of people on scooters/ebikes

     there are lots of motorcycle guys here too. just makes it hard to grocery shop lol
