@Escoffier @jb I made homemade fried chicken in an iron skillet over a campfire early-on in the dating of the mother of my children. It took two of us working together to make the process work, and was the only chicken I'd had outside of Georgia that ever compared. But that's one of those things where the experience flavored the meal.
To clarify what I mean by that, one of the best meals I've ever had was at about 12,500' in the Himalayas. I'd started the day with the early signs of Altitude Sickness, which will kill you the moment you finally relax: an elevated heartrate compensates for low oxygen levels, so when you sleep you die.
So we descended about 2,000' over the course of the day, skipped our regular lunch-stop, and did a double-distance haul to make sure we made a good stopping point for the night. Rough terrain for maybe 10 hours.
I was hungry.
We found an old woman in a hut that sold us hot baked potatoes, from her garden. Covered in dirt. No salt.
It was and is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten.

@NoDoxGregBrady @Escoffier @jb I too have eaten meals that were sublime while deep in the wilderness yet disappointing when recreated at home. People who say you can't work up an appetite are retarded.

@Escoffier @jb I prefer to think of it as a case of wishing I could RETVRN to my Southern roots. I will probably never have homemade southern-Georgia fried chicken ever again, and some sadnesses are too deep. So Chester's at King Soopers it is!
