     It always sounds stupid in the ESV or whatever that is.
     
     I don't fully understand why he did this, but it probably has something to do with driving home the point that so-called Christians that do absolutely nothing with their salvation, never try to get others saved, are basically dead anyway and are useless.

     Isaiah is one of the harder books to read because it sort of goes all over the place and it's quite prophetic, you really have to have read all the other books and know them well to get through Isaiah.

     Fig Tree

     There was a second temple era belief that the fig tree was the tree of death (aka knowledge of good and evil, opposite of tree of life). This could be supported by scripture since Adam and Eve covered themselves with fig leaves to hide their nakedness (grab the nearest tree leaves and cover up) and even if not correct in the objective sense may have been a common view at the time. You could view this as Christ cursing the tree death and saying "may no one ever eat of your fruit [death] again!"

     Flipping Tables

     The temple had two layers plus The Holy Of Holies. The outer layer was open to all who wanted to worship (think Pharisee and Publican story) but the inner was only for priests and Levites with The HOH only for the high priest. The outer layer was defiled by merchants and money changers and their wares. How is a regular honest worshipper supposed to present a sacrifice and pray to God when he's functionally in a market? Even worse with the temple coin exchange scheme making it more expensive than needed for those wishing to offer sacrifice.      He was pissed off at the tree for not being in fruit season because he was hangry and took it out on it, then he went into the temple with the same irritation and seen a gaggle of subversive jews trying to start a central bank with fiat currency so he chased them all out 😏 I think it means, use your anger over something petty for something righteous
