    Been messing around with my network at home recently, and this guide was very useful:

    I like to use ethernet, so I used this to configure a OpenWrt router to be a wireless bridge. That way, I can remove the wireless card on my main machine, and use ethernet instead.

    Annoyingly, I only get about 100Mbps on the bridge; might just be a limitation of the processor on the router (TP-Link Archer C7), but the actual wireless connection is about 1Gbps. It will be investigated.

      I ended up switching back to my old wireless bridge for now - which consumes 10x as much electricity but gives me 400mbps on the bridge. The old bridge is a ThinkPad X230 running a really lazily configured debian. AX210 wifi.

      I'll revisit OpenWRT at a later date. A low-power device would be nicer, for this purpose.

      I really should just wire proper ethernet at the home lab. My main lab is ethernet-only.

      I should also stop using ThinkPads as routers. Libreboot supports more than just thinkpads!

      @libreleah Weird, seems to me like bridging should use a lot less CPU than a full routing, NATting and firewalling access point. I have a ~similarly specced 802.11ac access point that has no trouble handling 1Gbps wired and 400-500Mbps wireless.
