     I think a lot of the holes that are opening by the downsizing can and should be covered through private initiatives, which shouldn't be hard to fund if taxes go down.

     @nerthos@shitposter.world (on the topic of downsizing) slashing of research funding mostly. the primary problem with private research is that you're incentivized to waste/replicate effort by not sharing resources because muh intellectual property muh valuable secrets, and nobody in the private sector seems to want to do anything contrary to this pattern.

     @nik Was ever their stated goal sane policy? and how does this relate to causality? I am pointing at the cause, not at the response. Let's assume they actually do respond by making insane policy too. Isn't that the whole concept of trauma response psychology?
     
     They're trying to disassemble the federal government and reduce public expenses, and that goal is being met so far.

     @nik @nerthos@shitposter.world just harvard's endowment alone is $50.7 billion dollars which has been funded mostly by the government printing free money directly to them in the form of student loans, i think they can maybe handle some of that research since that money isn't being taken away
