@redstockings The base rate says, "nope". If you read pre-covid epidemiology journals/blogs/lectures you'll find most of them make fun of the "bush meat" claim of zoonosis. It's hard to catch a respiratory virus from an animal. VERY HARD. Virus are very short pieces of information highly, highly specialized to receptors. The odds of an animal virus matching the receptors in a human are practically ZERO (in Bayesian terms). The odds of morons in biolabs do it, are 99.999999%

@polarisera @redstockings I think I heard Brett Weinstein talk about this on a podcast. His view was that if these viruses are jumping from animals to humans that quickly, we should be very frightened. -

@redstockings @polarisera There are plenty of societies that regard harming animals as culturally necessary or are just indifferent to it. -

@KeepTakingTheSoma @redstockings There's not enough "information" in a virus to ever do that. However, bioweapons research has been very interested in it. Including humanizing mice and selling those humanized mice.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @redstockings And speaking of animal rights, why isn't it an abomination to make frakencreatures with humanized features just so they can torture them with diseases? Nature would never create such things, they are wholly human creations of pain and torture.
