@Hoss @Tony @gentoobro thats unlikely. Most of the people pushing tech only see dollar signs and only believe in blind progression. ✙ dcc :pedomustdie: :phear_slackware: likes this. -

I'm not saying the tech is gonna be everything they promise. Maybe it will one day, but I think we're in the dot-com bubble phase of this tech. What I am saying is that if the tech somehow does deliver on everything they dream it will, they should think long and hard about what that means, because they'd be walking a fine line between becoming even more impossibly rich and becoming very dead. -

The first person to make a useful product with it is going to dominate. I think a functional robot is probably going to be the system that really gets it.
Also web design is (for good reason) going to be one of the first to go. But as far as actually disrupting the economy as a whole it'll be YEARS before that happens.
But to be honest, besides replacing indian call centers, chat bots really aren't that "useful" yet
So the race to build AI is basically just going to be a money suck until something clicks. Again. probably a useful robot. -

GPUs are expensive because Wall Street thinks they can replace all human labor with chatbots and somehow the starving masses wouldn't just kill them all and smash the chatbots.

That's is the funny thing about the AI idealists. I know opinion is mostly divided between "AI is glorified autocorrect" and "AI is the new paradigm that will change humanity forever". My opinion lands somewhere in the middle, but the thing about the latter side is that they're mostly delusional utopians drunk on extreme amounts of Silicon Valley wealth who haven't known what it's like to live as a normal person in decades, if ever. They don't seem to grasp that if they are right, they're talking about reducing social mobility to medieval feudal levels and freezing it there within the span of a decade. Anybody who isn't high on their own farts can foresee how that's likely to end with you getting dragged out of your mansion and ripped limb from limb.
