     Gotta love having to give our users instructions on how to log in to our Pixelfed server. What a brain dead UX decision.

     @dansup tbh I don’t see how this is better than having pixelfed dot social as the default and retaining the ability for people to easily pick another server if they want.

     It took me a sec to figure out how to log in to my customer server because enabling custom servers in the options is not intuitive

     I agree that we shouldn’t expect new users to have a PhD in fediversology, but currently the implementation seems more like obfuscation than simplification

     @dansup since you cannot just export and import your own data on a pixelfed instance this could also lead to people leaving the fediverse at all, because they learn about decentralization laterwards.

     What if you just write something about decentralization and let the user choose, like "decentalization is something, blabla a, what would you like to have:

     - i'm fine with a default chosen server, just take me there
     - i want to explore different servers
     - select me a random server/community"

     @dansup pretty sure that was a conscious choice by mastodon to avoid prioritising an instance.

     But I agree having to select an instance is very confusing and having such a simplified sign up is a massive win for onboarding.
