    The genre of YouTube food content I really dislike: when some American dude says ‘I’m ranking all the best fried chicken in the world’ and then it’s based on *him* cooking like, I dunno, hat yai fried chicken.

    I don’t care if you’re the best chef in the world (which dudes like that aren’t), you’re not cooking hat yai fried chicken even half as well as any auntie in hat yai. It’s extremely delusional.

      Go watch some Asian people’s cooking channels instead.

      Palin from Hot Thai Kitchen is from Hat Yai and I love how she’s always repping how it’s one of the best fried chickens (I agree)

      I make it sometimes, and it makes me remember my happy memories of eating at random street vendors in Hat Yai

      My favorite celebrity chef moment was when Gordon Ramsey did a ‘can I cook better than Singaporean and Malaysian aunties’ segment and there were so many shots of the aunties going ‘wtf is he going’

      (I’m not saying that people can’t cook cultural foods, but I think you can’t claim to be an expert in cultural foods without doing the work. No one’s saying Fuschia Dunlop can’t talk about Sichuan food for example)
