I just bought a new 512 GB NVMe to replace a worn out 256 GB one. I'm using this 256 GB device with Proxmox.

I'd like to move the data to the new device cloning from one to another using CloneZilla.

The thing is: once the cloning process is done, how do I expand the partitions as needed in order to use the whole new drive and keep the data integrity?

@santiago I have backups running every 06h but I don't want to go through the chore of configuring Proxmox again and importing all VMs hahaha

      But if it's needed...

@cadusilva I am afraid I know toolittle about LVM-Thin to be helpful. Hopefully someone else over here can help.

I just use plain .qcow2 disk images on ext4 here because it frightens me less and I know I can still plug the disk and manually copy the VMs in case something goes very wrong .

@monospace so I just do the cloning and optionally expand a little the ext4 / partition and that's it? The nvme0n1p4 partition will just go with it and take care of the rest?

@cadusilva AFAICS, LVM should pretty much take care of that automatically. It'll see that there is double the physical extent capacity and will just go on using them when creating new logical volumes.

@monospace thank you! When the new drive arrives I'll try it out.

@cadusilva First, you resize the LVM partition (with `gparted`, for example), then you use `pvresize` to assign the new capacity to LVM. That should do it.

I might end up trying this on a VM on my live stream later.
