The fediverse really wants Loops to federate, but have you asked your admins how excited they are for the S3 costs?

PeerTube be on this already, we need to leverage P2P and our upcoming global FediCDN to reduce the burden on storage costs.

See, we really do care. And are going out of our way to make Loops a healthy and respectful member of the fediverse.

Not only can we get this right, we can make it easier on servers of all sizes!

Now let's free short videos from walled gardens ✨

I think a problem is (and that’s completely natural and okay) that a lot of good willing users who come over from legacy social media don’t really understand how the technical backend of such Apps work and therefore not necessarily understand why there is such a difference between mostly text-based solutions like Mastodon and multimedia driven solutions like Loops.
And they are used to things being „free“ (i.e. paying with data without feeling it).

That might be a conondrum to solve 🤔

Just thinking: maybe the option to donate could be integrated right in the app? Maybe with some „digital rewards“ (non-functional ofc), like you’re getting a Donator Symbol next to your user name, or a frame around your profile pic or whatever.
Sth that lets ppl know that they are supporters.
With this spreading the message and also making it interesting to others?

There can not be discrimination ofc towards ppl who don’t (or cannot) donate, maybe that’s the tricky part 🤔

      🤷🏻

@tchambers @dansup it was a little joke between Dan and I. If he does decide to do it. It will be interesting as it’s really hard to make a CDN you have to have many servers around the world. We use Varnish Cache for ours.

@russell @dansup What would we need for a “fediverse”focused cdn need that any standard web cdn doesn’t already do?
