     @petra One factor in the Marxist surge of 2012 was the increasing power of media thanks to the switch to HDTV in 2009.
     
     Crude black and white film did not replicate reality to the same degree, even in high resolution (projected in 35 mm).
     
     Note that the few early Technicolor films were legendary - notably Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz. But they were very, very expensive so Hollywood could not afford to fully embrace color until single strip film was developed (Technicolor shot three strips of film at once using filters. The three were then used to lay down three layers of dye on the prints. Technicolor was a very stable medium as the separations are done on the more robust black and white stock. Later color methods are actually more perishable and usually require extensive grading when released on Bluray.)

     At that level they are identical.

     It is still astonishing to me what percentage of the midwit's world view is informed by casual fictional media consumption, vs. observation of and reflection upon the real world.
