   @domi why an ARPA domain? LetsEncrypt is now issuing certificates for IP addresses. You don't even need to work around it with an arpa domain.

     Not yet in general availability. You could federate over pure HTTP but Mastodon would shriek over the lack of encrypted webfinger.

     @feld @domi Either way, I'd need to see if this'll work with in-addr.arpa since IPv6 has bad rep among people I federate with the most.

     @merlin @domi If it's a valid address / domain with a valid matching cert it will work. If it didn't there would be a bug in the HTTP client being used and that bug would have been encountered years ago before ActivityPub

     @feld @domi yeah, one could also buy a normal domain and get a normal certificate. or easier even, take one's posts over to Threads. but why choose the easy and obvious way when there is a chance to explore the corner cases of software?
