Regardless of how nazi-like you feel Musk's salute was, it's definitely not only not nazi like, but also raised hand salutes go thousands of years before Nazis ever existed.

Musk's intention, regardless of what he said after the event, was to use the nazi salute because, if it weren't, that gesture, made twice, would make no sense. I don't know if he did it because he is a nazi or if it was just a performance for a part of the audience or simply to show everyone that he can do whatever he wants, that he is untouchable. But there is no doubt in my mind -- it was a nazi salute, done intentionally.

He's an awkward person, very likely somewhere in the autistic spectrum. For people like that, it's very, very hard to show true empathic emotion. I believe that's a poorly rehearsed "my heart goes to you", he actually even says it, but of course since it's against "the message", the news hide it.
It's like the "good people on both sides" hoax, the news *never* show what Trump said just seconds after that, condemning the white supremacists. It would harm "the message".

If you can't see how you're diminishing the real Nazis with that comparison, you're part of the problem.
The same problem that drove Musk to seek allies in his promise to destroy that problem.
So basically, one extremism drove the focus of a powerful and extremely rich CEO into another extremism.

So, he is awkward but, for his gesture (made twice) to be considered a nazi salute, it should have been done matching 100% a standard of how to salute nazi-style. It doesn't matter that *immediately* after that gesture he was able to make what anyone would consider a proper "my heart goes to you" gesture, accompanied by the correct words. And it sure doesn't matter also that he is supporting, in words, presence, influence and money, nazi parties and groups all over Europe. Right.
