He's an awkward person, very likely somewhere in the autistic spectrum. For people like that, it's very, very hard to show true empathic emotion. I believe that's a poorly rehearsed "my heart goes to you", he actually even says it, but of course since it's against "the message", the news hide it.

It's like the "good people on both sides" hoax, the news *never* show what Trump said just seconds after that, condemning the white supremacists. It would harm "the message".
