   So this is what we call the terrestrial radio takeover/monopoly. It’s been one of the biggest monsters for at least the last 50 years. Insane how much power they have.

     They almost don't even have DJs anymore. Their radio stations are basically just a playlist of whatever songs the labels are paying to promote today + a voice actor phoning it in for every $genre station in the country.

     @JessTheUnstill @dalias @ErickaSimone I listen to the local public radio classical station, but mostly I listen to a local noncommercial (as in no commercials) station with volunteer DJs, who play what they want. No playlists. Locals can volunteer and become DJs. I've thought about it. WXOX 97.1. They stream too. I don't listen to NPR anymore. Some of the DJs have execrable taste, or talk too much, but others I really like. Each DJ gets a two hour slot. Great variety.

     I still listen to radio in my car, mostly because the Bluetooth is kinda mucky on it, so it doesn't always auto connect, then it'll start playing whatever YouTube I was watching so I have to switch it to music, and also my phone has a tendency to pause Pandora when Google Maps speaks up for some reason, then I have to click play on it. And my 2016 Subaru hates my Pixel 6 for some reason, so I can't even use the infotainment system.

     I could probably fuck with it to get it to work eventually, but I don't drive very much or very long distances, so I just deal with it for 10-15 min and switch stations when ads come on.

     @JessTheUnstill @ErickaSimone I hardly drive too, and when I do it's my mix cd of late 90s/early 00s metal on ancient mp3 cd player. 🙃
