People who made fun of my awkward ADHD having geeky self my entire life, now weaponizing neurodivergence, lying about having autism (with no proper diagnosis to prove it) to explain their INTENTIONALLY abusive behavior and general psychosis has GOT to be one of the most irritating character arcs of the last century.

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social @miqokin@denden.world Folks who use claimed neurodivergence as an excuse for being an asshole are doubly assholes because they also defame nerodivergent folks.

@ErickaSimone Folks don't need a diagnosis to prove they're non neurotypical, and challenging whether they really are doesn't further anyone's interests.

But if someone is using that claim as an excuse for behaving in a racist manner (or any way that furthers someone else's oppression, or just being an asshole), it's not a valid excuse. Most non neurotypical folks are not like that. Autism doesn't make you racist. Racism does.

you're right, but there's a very important detail you appear to be missing.

it seems to be very common for neurodivergent people to be misperceived as exhibiting various misfeatures, tripping on social conventions, treading our atypical mental pathways, and expressing thoughts in ways that get misidentified. that's not to say that neurodivergents are incapable of being hateful, just that there are plenty of misunderstandings and lots of intolerance, ignorance, and prejudice.
