   I had been using instagram mostly to follow skz accounts, and facebook mostly for local marketplace type stuff

   but

   ugh

   I finally decided that I can live without those things, and I deleted my accounts

   I still have WhatsApp though. it's the only groupchat option that my family all uses. I want to kill WhatsApp too. but Facebook Messenger is the only other groupchat that my family members use, and that's even worse than WhatsApp.

   ugh ugh ugh I wonder if I should just kill it anyway, and rely on text messages

   my friends nearly all use discord for groupchat, and I'm happy to stay there

   I still use google ecosystem, which seems less fucked than meta and x (at least for now). it feels too hard to move off google at this point.

     ... I suggested to the groupchat on WhatsApp that maybe we could move to Discord or Signal, anyway.

     Even if they decide not to, at least I have raised the possibility.

     I'm happy to leave it there for now, and let the idea percolate.

     @cinderdazzle612 can you share any strategies you used that helped with leading the group to discord? Was the group already dissatisfied with Facebook?

     @lookitmychicken I have finally helped lead a group I rely on to Discord somewhat. It is a huge group on Facebook, so if a portion go to Discord, I can see it being as active and fun as the Facebook group can be.

     @Musicappreciator7 I'd be delighted if my family would use signal, but I'd be perfectly happy with discord. I suspect anything else would be a bridge too far for most of them.
