The simple solution is that there must be a punishment for legislators that make the law too complicated for a 90IQ person to follow.
Perhaps if business law needs to be more complex, then you must take an IQ test in order to do business. There is no point in making law too complex for people to understand, other than requiring lawyers for everything.

@Jewpacabra I don't hate lawyers, because there is a point to them: contract law is a fine place to have them.
The issue is that it turns very quickly into a middleman problem, applied generally.

Having spent 17 years in law on and off, can confirm. Also, I have had more than one lawyer tell me, "it doesn't matter what the law is. It is what you can convince the judge of, and how."

@CrustyBurgerhead @sickburnbro I agree. But how many of them are people with their own agency that will gladly shyster you just to make a buck? “I was just following orders” can apply to them too.
Edit: it’s different in that guns are objects, lawyers are actual people. The law can be the tool, the lawyers are the zogbots.

@Jewpacabra @CrustyBurgerhead I think COVID has shown us that the amount of people that will "just following orders" you into your grave to make things easier for them extends way beyond lawyers.

Hating lawyers is like hating guns. You're misdirecting your anger at the tool rather than the bastard who's using it.

@Jewpacabra @CrustyBurgerhead while I appreciate your bloodlust, remember political power is finite; look to the Russian and French revolutions as to how that goes.

There should be no more laws applicable to the average citizen than can be taught in a single year in high school. If they want to add one, they have to remove one.
This should include filling in a tax return. Or even better, abolish personal income tax.

@Escoffier the obfuscation is the main reason the shit is impossible to know

@sickburnbro When I was living in OKC there was a law being debated that had to do with land use. I was never able to make heads or tails of it so I'd add purposefully obfuscation to the list

@sickburnbro I mean I'm a pretty bright guy and was discussing it with a reasonably intelligent teacher and we were stumped
