      @maj @drq I'm not sure why this person is being so cryptic with their explanation....

      You're not supposed to click on the link, you're supposed to copy and paste the link into your instances search bar. From there, you can interact with the post.

      Posting TO communities takes a bit more work because you do have to figure out which communities there are, so you'd have to browse Lemmy instances to find one you like.

      Then you'd make a new post with the first line being the title of the post on Lemmy, a line break, then the body of the post, then another line break and mention the community as if it were a normal Fediverse user. For example, if I wanted to post on the Fediverse Lemmy.world community, I'd mention @ Fediverse@lemmy.world without the space. This is just an example, I don't know if that community actually exists.

      I hope this helps.👍

      @drq No and kinda don't want to learn?

      This shouldn't feel like installing a linux driver in 1999. Think I will shelve the idea for now!

      Thanks again though.

      @maj You browse Lemmy instances.

      You do know how to import fedi objects through search, do you?

      @maj You just create an opening, non-reply post.

      On your Mastodon account.

      While mentioning a Lemmy group you want to post to.

      The post appears in the Lemmy group.

      Profit.

      @drq yeah I mean I'm here now right? But there's a missing step for Lemmy to know I'm me, here?

      Login wants an email address. I don't see "login from the fediverse" anywhere...

      I don't have a Lemmy account.

      This is why I'm so excited.

      @maj @drq that's what I said...it's not the intended way and VERY janky. However, you asked how to do it, so I told you.🤷♂️

      Someone moving from reddit to Lemmy wouldn't have to do that if they sign up for lemmy.

      @BeAware @drq Yeah and can we just acknowledge that the experience for interacting with lemmy from mastodon is not ideal? I mean, it isn't right?

      @maj @drq well...nobody said that was the intended way to do it...you could create a Lemmy account and post to communities just like reddit.

      You were inquiring about interacting with your mastodon account so that's what I replied with instructions for.🤷♂️

      @BeAware @drq

      It's just a hard sell for people who are used to "Open reddit, read, comment" to have to have multiple tabs open, browse / find things on different instances, then switch back to Mastodon cut-and-paste urls into search, then create a post, then go grab the community name to @ it.
      I'll come back to this when I have more bandwidth to play around.
      Thanks again!

      I appreciate both your help and not trying to hold y'all responsible for the ux here! I know there's a lot of work happening on how things do/should work between fediveres platforms and we're in early days with a lot of onboarding happening for new folks.

      lemmyverse.net is going to be better at finding lemmy communities than browsing a given lemmy instance will.
