FYI friends and followers: I have developed an inguinal hernia, and my physical activity is restricted until surgery, in February. There is some pain, not too bad, but worrisome because I'm advised to go straight to the ER if the pain becomes severe, indicating "strangulation." When I asked the doctor if wearing a truss would help, he laughed and said, "No" emphatically, and then "just push it back in with your hand." So, I am spending far to much time blither-tooting. My apologies.

I had one time where it felt like I was going to have to go in. Luckily I was near my bed and laid down flat and yes, pushed. Such an unnatural feeling. You will know but in general, as your doctor says, take it easy, toot away.

Normally, having an inguinal hernia with pain is so dagerous that immediate surgery is advised. Particularly, your doctor's "advice" to "push it back in with your hand" sounds truly irresponsible.
The issue is that if one leaves an inguinal hernia untreated for too long, the hernia can get bigger and cause more and more intestine to leak out. And if a loop of intestine is clamped off, life is in immediate danger.
So please consult a second physican and check for rapid treatment. -

I hope your medical team and the organization that pays for it can find a way to get you into surgery sooner. -

I had surgery for the same kind of hernia 4 years ago, on the right side of my groin, the new one is on the left. The repair on the right hasn't failed. I will have the same surgeon doing the procedure as did the right side. That surgery went smoothly, and I had a quick recovery. The new hernia is the twin of the first. I like her, and the way she goes about her business.
