Bruce Liles wrote this song in response to Scott Walker, Gouverneur of Wisconsin (2010 - 2018), who in 2011 introduced the "Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill" that elliminated collective bargaining for most Wisconsin public employees. The Bill drew wide protests and a protesters' occupation of the Wisconsin State Capitol but became law in March 2011.
One is "Zelig syndrome" after the protagonist of the eponymous Woody Allen movie from 1983
Another is "Environmental dependency syndrome" which I personally find as improper as the term "masking" as both insinuate intention and propensity of deceit.
A third one is "Chameleon syndrome" which I find best as it conveys the unintentional and semi-automatic dynamic of that "behaviour".
Personally I find it difficult to distinguish this mimicking from empathy. Or put differently: When one comes to accept this mimicking as a talent, one can, via introspection, achieve a deep insight into other people's state of psychê, which can be helpful in all sorts of councelling, therapeutic help, and conflict resolution.

It's rather: Why do they have hair at different parts of their bodies? Because: The hair on top, they're clearly antennas to the sky, the longer the better, to sense the whispers of the ghosts. But the ampit hairs, I have no idea, nor the genital ones, and in particular those that grow rather late in life: the hair inside the noses and on the ears.
